Rena Bransten Gallery presents the first San Francisco exhibition of photographs by John Waters. The show entitled "Staight to Video" is a survey of works produced by Waters over the last seven years. Shot from his television screen, the work consists of sequential film stills taken from Hollywood and cult classic movies, including some from his own films. Reframed as diptychs, grids and narrow strips, these pictures form puns, one-liners and/or twisted narratives. Each grouping is further emphasized by its satirical title.
John Waters has exhibited in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Vienna, Los Angeles, Atlanta and New Orleans. He had a solo show at the Wexner Center for the Arts in 1999 and has also shown at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art and the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati.
